Two years ago, Waktu Horology was a collection of sketches in a few scraps of paper and a vision to ensure Malay heritage had a permanent place in the world of fine watchmaking. Today, as we celebrate our first anniversary this May 2026, that vision has become a reality worn on wrists across the globe.
It has been an incredible journey from our official launch in May 2025 to where we stand now. This anniversary isn't just a celebration of a brand; it’s a celebration of a community that believes stories are worth preserving.
A Journey of Firsts and Milestones
Reflecting on the past year specifically, it’s hard to believe how much ground we’ve covered. From our very first public exhibition at Spring Sprang Sprung 2025 to seeing our mission highlighted by CNA Women, Berita Harian, and Augustman, the support has been overwhelming.
One of the most humbling moments remained the opportunity to share our work with former President Halimah Yacob—a reminder that our "small" brand is contributing to a much larger cultural conversation in Singapore and beyond.
More Than Just a Timepiece
At the heart of Waktu Horology is the belief that a watch should do more than tell time; it should tell a story. Whether it’s the pucuk rebung (bamboo shoot) on the hands of the Klasik: Hitam symbolising growth, or the Kalbu: M.O.P. reflecting our deep maritime roots, every detail is intentional.
We’ve spent these last 12 months refining our craft, ensuring that our "borderless" approach to Malay culture reaches people of all backgrounds. We want these motifs to be encoded in a way that appeals to everyone, proving that heritage is a universal language.
The Road Ahead: New Horizons in Design
As we look toward our second year, we aren’t slowing down. If year one was about establishing our roots, year two is about watching them grow into new and unexpected forms. We are deep in the "iterative process" of creation, focusing on evolving the narrative where we explore new watch hand designs that continue to interpret cultural symbols like the pucuk rebung and bunga pecah lapan in fresh, modern ways.
Beyond our signature dress watches, we are researching new product lines, including specialised complications and lifestyle accessories that bridge the gap between traditional craft and daily utility.
Expect to see more "Slow Craft" partnerships involving hand-cut leather and unique hand-painted elements, ensuring every piece remains as unique as the story it tells. The dream remains the same: to ensure that Malay heritage isn't just something found in a museum, but something stylish, functional, and worn with pride every single day.
A Heartfelt Thank You
To the "pioneers" who supported our very first launch, the new friends we made at the National Design Centre, and our growing community across the Nusantara and globally—THANK YOU. You took a chance on a new brand with a big vision, and you are the reason Waktu Horology continues to tick.
Here’s to many more years of celebrating our roots, one second at a time.
