The Kalbu: M.O.P. - Mawar dial is an ode to the equatorial horizon. It captures the softest, most romantic light of the day. Its warm, rosy hue is like a breathtaking moment on the horizon, reflecting the tender pinks of both an archipelago sunrise and a tropical sunset. This variant embodies a rare beauty found in moments of tranquillity and hope, reminding us that every journey, no matter how long, has a serene and beautiful reward.

The natural iridescence of the M.O.P. ensures that extreme light-play is constantly accentuated; at certain angles, the dial takes on deep, nuanced tones of lavender and soft gold, complementing the warm, rosy hue. This complex interplay of light, magnified through the sapphire glass, embodies the Kalbu—the inner, centred soul—and reminds us that true strength is found not just in clarity, but in balance, beauty, and emotional depth.

**Due to the extreme demands of machining the intricate 'pucuk rebung' hour hand and 'bunga pecah lapan' minute hand, the manufacturing process was pushed to its limits to ensure absolute precision. To maintain the quality of these components, the Kalbu: M.O.P. - Mawar is limited to a total of 100 pieces worldwide and will not be repeated.

Waktu Horology proudly welcomes a new collection, the Kalbu: M.O.P., a profound tribute that uses its open heart aperture to reveal more than just the watch's inner workings. It establishes a deep connection to the very soul of the Malay maritime past.

Kalbu: M.O.P. draws its primary inspiration from the Orang Laut—the ancestral sea voyagers whose lives were intrinsically entwined with the vast ocean and the Tebrau Strait. This connection to the sea is reinforced by the dial, which is crafted from Mother-of-Pearl. This material is a deliberate choice, reflecting the ocean's shifting essence and its storied legacy as a symbol of wealth, trade, and the supreme artistry reserved for the highest echelons of culture—adorning everything from the ceremonial Keris of a Sultan to the gilded furniture of a Peranakan mansion. The timepiece is a wearable narrative, uniting the boundless energy of the sea with the intricate traditions of the land.

Kalbu ( Jawi: قلبو )

[Mal. Kal•bu, from Ar. قَلْب Qalb]
N. (Noun)

The deepest, most sacred center of one's being, intuition, and moral conscience; it is the profound, enduring spirit and deep-rooted connection to one's past and heritage.

The story of Kalbu: M.O.P. unfolds with Waktu Horology's signature hands, each a symbol of a timeless journey. The hour hand, inspired by the pucuk rebung (bamboo shoot), points forward with a delicate, upward-reaching form, representing growth and continuous progression toward the horizon. Complementing this is the minute hand, a reflection of the bunga pecah lapan (eight-petaled flower). This motif of balance and harmony sweeps gracefully, reminding us that every journey requires a steady hand and a centred soul. These culturally imbued hands are unique to Waktu Horology, making them a powerful and exclusive statement of heritage on your wrist.

To complement this maritime masterpiece, the domed stainless steel hour markers are meticulously polished to resemble luminous pearls. These markers are a subtle nod to the precious bounty of the ocean and its secret richness, serving as timeless indicators on your journey. Much like the stars that guided the ancestral Orang Laut across the open water, these pearl-like markers stand as enduring points of reference, marking the passage of time with unwavering clarity. This meticulous detailing showcases the dedication to craftsmanship that defines Waktu, creating a harmonious and luxurious landscape that reflects the artistry of a bygone era.

DIAL

Housed within a refined 38mm high-polished stainless steel case, the Kalbu: M.O.P. offers a glimpse into its own profound narrative. The watch’s open heart aperture reveals more than just its inner workings; it establishes a deep connection to the very soul of the Malay maritime past. This theme is anchored by the breathtaking dial, meticulously crafted from Mother-of-Pearl. This material is a deliberate choice, reflecting the ocean's shifting essence and its storied legacy as a symbol of wealth, trade, and the supreme artistry reserved for Malay royal regalia. The Waktu logo is subtly positioned at 9 o'clock, with the distinctive "W" serving as a nod to the West and the historic maritime trade routes pioneered by Malay ancestry.

Complementing this marine masterpiece, the domed stainless steel hour markers are polished to a high sheen, meticulously resembling luminous pearls. These markers are a subtle tribute to the ocean's precious bounty and its secret richness, serving as timeless indicators for your journey. Much like the stars that guided the ancestral Orang Laut across the open water, these pearl-like markers stand as enduring points of reference, marking the passage of time with unwavering clarity. This meticulous attention to detail elevates the design, creating a harmonious and luxurious landscape that reflects the dedication to craftsmanship defining Waktu Horology.

HANDS

Waktu Horology's signature watch hands embody a synthesis of heritage made possible by maritime trade. The intricate motifs of these hands, drawn from the songket fabric, represent the cherished traditions of the land—a sophistication that was, historically, funded by the sea. Without the seafaring voyages that transported silk and gold threads, the artistry of songket could not have reached its full expression.

The hour hand, reminiscent of the ‘pucuk rebung’ (bamboo shoot) motif found in songket, embodies growth and continuous progression with its delicate, upward-reaching form.

Complementing this is the minute hand, inspired by the ‘bunga pecah lapan’ (eight-petaled flower). This motif, often seen in stylised, geometric songket patterns, speaks to balance and harmony, reflected in the minute hand's constant yet graceful sweep.

These culturally imbued hands, which are unique to Waktu Horology, serve as a profound testament to the historical truth that the great Malay empires were built on the seamless flow between the currents of the ocean and the traditions of the land. They are a powerful and exclusive statement of heritage on your wrist.

CROWN & CASEBACK

Beyond the dial, the Kalbu: M.O.P. is engineered for both elegance and resilience. A meticulously crafted screw-down pumpkin crown, adorned with the Waktu logo, offers a secure and comfortable grip for winding, ensuring precise timekeeping.

Complementing this is a robust exhibition screw-down caseback, featuring the Waktu logo on the movement's rotor. This thoughtful construction of both the crown and caseback allows the timepiece to achieve a water resistance of up to 10 ATM (approximately 100 meters), ensuring durability and peace of mind for the wearer.

The Mother-of-Pearl (M.O.P.) dial is deeply rooted in the history of the Malay Archipelago. For centuries, this luminous material was not merely a decorative element; it was a potent symbol of wealth, power, and the maritime trade that defined the region.

The vast seas of the archipelago, particularly the Sulu and Celebes Seas, were historically the heart of a thriving pearl and pearl shell industry. The iridescent nacre from the pearl oyster shells became a cornerstone of both local artistry and international commerce. It was a tangible gift from the ocean, collected by ancestral sea dwellers like the Orang Laut and transformed into exquisite objects that signalled the highest levels of sophistication.

Mother-of-Pearl was frequently reserved for embellishing royal regalia and the ceremonial items that defined the courts of the Malay Sultanates and Peranakan mansions. This included inlaying the material into grand pieces, such as magnificent betel boxes (tepak sirih)—items of immense social standing and often part of the royal procession itself. By incorporating Mother-of-Pearl, the Kalbu: M.O.P. deliberately invokes this legacy, carrying the enduring spirit of the sea and the opulent artistry once reserved for royalty onto your wrist.

The Kalbu: M.O.P. is a celebration of the enduring connection between Malay maritime heritage and the artistry of the land. It is a timepiece designed not just to measure time, but to embody it.
