Nilam Leather Strap
Introducing Waktu Horology's First Anniversary release: The Nilam Leather Strap. As a vital component of the Anniversary Collection, this edition represents the first time we have translated the vastness and dignity of our maritime history into a bespoke leather accessory.
The name Nilam — derived from the sapphire-blue gemstone — references the deep, navigational waters of the Lautan Nusantara (The Malay Seas). It is a colour that evokes stability, reflecting the regalia and uniforms of the modern Sultanates of Johor and Selangor.
In Malay heritage, navy blue is the colour of the horizon and the deep. It symbolises Stability and Dignity, representing the strength required to navigate the unknown. Crafted from premium Navy Blue calf leather, the Nilam strap is designed for the modern voyager who values a calm, commanding presence.
The pairing of a Black Lining with matching Navy Blue Stitching ensures a seamless, sophisticated look that remains versatile for both formal and daily wear.
For this variant, we feature the Awan Larat (Trailing Clouds) motif, hand-painted in ochre-gold pigment. This motif is a hallmark of Malay aesthetic philosophy, representing the "Infinite Flow" of life and the interconnectedness of nature.
The choice of Awan Larat on the Nilam strap is a nod to the winds and clouds that guided ancestral sea voyagers. It represents Persistence and Grace, flowing across the leather like the crest of a wave under a golden sun.
The ochre-gold paint against the deep navy leather creates a high-contrast, "Royal" aesthetic that mimics the maritime strength of historical Malay fleets. To ensure this artistry endures, the hand-applied pigments are treated with a specialised finish to withstand tropical elements, including rain, without compromising the leather’s signature suppleness.
Every Waktu Horology Anniversary Strap is a product of "Slow Craft," made by hand in Singapore from start to finish. In keeping with this philosophy, every Nilam strap is exclusively made to order.
This pre-order window is available for a limited time only, with a dedicated lead time of 4 weeks. This duration allows our master leathersmiths and artists the necessary time to ensure every hand-painted detail is perfected before the piece reaches your wrist.
The strap size is 20mm at the lugs and 18mm at the buckle.
Designed to fit fine mechanical watches.

"Creating our first-ever strap collection was a deeply personal project. I wanted to ensure that the same heritage and 'Kalbu' (soul) found in our watches could be felt in the leather that touches your skin. This release is a tribute to our first year and the community that has grown with us."

The Depth of the Horizon: Lautan Nusantara
The name Nilam—derived from the sapphire gemstone—references the deep, navigational waters of the Lautan Nusantara (The Malay Seas).
In Malay heritage, navy blue is the colour of the horizon and the deep. It serves as a tribute to the modern Sultanates of Johor and Selangor, where blue is frequently used in uniforms and regalia to symbolise loyalty and stability.
Crafted from premium Navy Blue Epsom calf leather, the Nilam strap represents the Kedalaman Samudera (depths of the ocean) and the quiet dignity required to navigate the unknown.
The Infinite Flow: Awan Larat
For this variant, we feature the Awan Larat (Trailing Clouds) motif, hand-painted in a grounded ochre-yellow pigment.
A hallmark of Malay aesthetic philosophy, this motif represents the "Infinite Flow" of life and the interconnectedness of nature.
The choice of Awan Larat on the Nilam strap is a direct nod to the winds and clouds that guided ancestral sea voyagers across the archipelago.
It represents Persistence and Grace, flowing across the navy leather like the crest of a wave beneath a golden sun.
Maritime Regalia: The Navigator’s Authority
The contrast of ochre-yellow paint against the deep navy leather creates a sharp, "Royal" aesthetic that mimics the maritime strength of historical Malay fleets.
This pairing offers a seamless, sophisticated look that remains versatile for both formal and daily wear.
By grounding the vibrant ochre motif against the dark leather, the strap becomes a symbol of Stability and Command, reflecting the regalia of modern Malay households while honouring the seafaring legacy of our ancestors.
The "Silent Warrior": A Bespoke Detail
The strap keeper is the "silent warrior" of your timepiece—the small but mighty component that secures the tail end of the leather in place.
Often neglected in standard watchmaking, we have chosen to elevate this detail. With a bespoke mindset, Shu Yi (@yi.leatherco) has designed each strap with a moveable keeper in a contrasting, harmonious colour.
This subtle shift ensures that every small detail counts, creating a balanced and intentional look that distinguishes a Waktu Horology commission from the mass-produced.
The Ethics of "Slow Craft"
Every Waktu Horology Anniversary Strap is made by hand in Singapore from start to finish.
10 Years of Mastery: Hand-cut and hand-stitched by Shu Yi (Yi Leather) using traditional tools—no lasers, no mass production.
Artisanal Pigments: Hand-painted layer-by-layer by Aries (Hui.Art), requiring hours of air-drying between applications to achieve a "living" glow.
Tropical Resilience: The pigments are treated with a specialised finish to withstand rain and humidity without compromising the leather’s signature suppleness.
Notice for United States-bound Orders
As Waktu Horology reaches collectors across the globe, we wish to maintain complete transparency regarding evolving international trade policies. Please be advised that all orders destined for the United States are currently subject to a baseline tariff of 10% on the total value of the strap.

These federal tariffs may be applied in addition to any existing state or local consumption taxes and charges. These fees will be collected directly by our delivery partner upon fulfilment and are not collected upfront by Waktu Horology.
Due to the artisanal and strictly limited nature of the Anniversary Collection, all orders are final; they cannot be cancelled, returned, or refunded. By proceeding with your purchase, you acknowledge and agree to these terms and the no-cancellation policy currently in force.
